Wenshan Baozhong Tea (Medium Grade)
|
This Wenshan Baozhong tea has a light yellowish green color when infused. The flavor is mildly sweet and vegetal, with "nose" and taste both having some floral notes. Aftertaste is pleasant and subtle. Provides two to three infusions. Technically classified (by process) as a "green" oolong, which means it's been lightly oxidized. If nobody told you otherwise, you'd think it was a green tea.
Wenshan Baozhong (aka Pouchong) Tea is produced in Pinglin, Taiwan, outside of Taipei City, which is at the northern tip of the island. Pinglin is known as the Northern Tea Capital of Taiwan, also known as the Wenshan area. "Baozhong" means wrapped variety because originally, as the story goes, the tea was wrapped in paper before drying and processing. Today the processing is different. "Shan" means mountain in Mandarin. Wenshan is one of three districts outside of Taipei City that are less populated than the city. A great place to visit if you want to get away from the noise and hustle bustle of Taipei, and sip a cup (or seven!) of tea in one of the many tea houses dotting the hills of this picturesque region.
